think about how much stuff comes with a package—the box, the tape, the filler, and the wrap. Sometimes, the box is ten times as big as what’s inside. Add that to all the energy that goes into getting the package and its contents to you, and it’s easy to see why sending a package can be pretty nasty to the environment.

We designed our packaging and shipping process so that when a That’s Caring basket goes off into the world, it tiptoes, not stampedes, across the Earth. We use sustainable packaging, buy our products locally whenever possible, and work with TerraPass to more than offset the adverse affects of getting your gift to its recipient. So you can give, give away, without even a scrap of guilt.

We purchase carbon offsets from TerraPass to balance out the negative effects of freight and shipping. The trucks, trains and planes that take a gift basket from us to your recipient emit carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that brings about global warming and all other sorts of bad news. The carbon offsets fund projects that reduce carbon dioxide, such as wind farms and landfill gas capture, to even out the damage done by delivering our products.

For every That's Caring basket that's sent, we buy enough carbon offsets to balance out the daily activities of an average person. That's actually more than what's needed to offset the freight and shipping, but we figured a company that sells gifts should give a little, too. Also, the math was easier.

locally sourced products

We buy local whenever possible. Most of the products in our baskets come from the Chicagoland area and all come from the United States. Purchasing close to home cuts down on freight and travel and is therefore better for the environment.

In addition to being eco-friendly, we’ve found that buying local is better business in general. We’re able to develop close partnerships with our vendors, giving us the freedom to constantly create and update baskets so there’s always a large, fresh selection for you to choose from. And since we get great support from neighboring businesses and the local community, we like to return the favor and support them, too.
